Katie has lost 120 lbs.

“Just wanted to give you an update on my weight loss progress. Since starting my pre-op diet, (Sept. 1/15)I have lost a total of 120 lbs (I’m 5’3”, starting weight: 263.2, current weight: 143.2 lbs) and I truly feel like a new person. Actually, the whole experience has made me feel like my “old self” as I am proud to say that in the first time in 15 years, I have returned to the same weight I was at university.

I joined a gym in November 2015, and I have been going consistently since then; working out 5-6 times a week, for approx. 1.5hrs. In conjunction with the VSG surgery, this has made a huge success of my weight loss efforts. I’ve felt able to enjoy my workouts and have made them a part of my daily regime. Before the surgery, I would get so hungry whenever I was working out all the time. It is easier to not have to worry about eating too much now. Working out regularly is one of my main triumphs in this journey. I haven’t been able to stay so consistent with working out since university, and I feel I’m in the best shape of my life. I have noticed my body go through several changes; both the weight loss and the muscle definition I’ve attained have helped transform my appearance. I’ve never had so much energy before either. Before surgery, my body would ache every evening, due to the excess weight. I can now run around, chase my kids and climb stairs with ease.

I have a Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design from Ryerson University. My second top triumph since losing the weight, is getting my interest in fashion back.  For so many years, I essentially ignored (or tried to ignore) my outward appearance. I began to care less and less about how I looked and how I put myself together. I focused on raising my three young children, and forgot to take care of myself. Everything has changed! I enjoy styling outfits and putting together looks that I wear proudly. I’ve gone from a size 24 to a size 6 in 10 months and I feel great!

I am so grateful for being able to have the vertical sleeve surgery, and I’ve used it as a tool to help transform my body into one I can be proud of. I am stronger and healthier than I’ve been in years, and it’s helped me feel in control of my appetite and how to approach eating in a positive manner.”
