What is wellness coaching?

The following steps can help you in the behavioural change process:
- Generate a well defined realistic vision of how you wish to feel, look and what you hope to be able to do in one year’s time.
- Identify benefits and motivators to change and recognize obstacles that may interfere with success. Identify your strengths and employ them to overcome obstacles.
- Set S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measureable, achievable, realistic, time-lined) goals to fulfill your vision. Recall previous goals that you have successfully accomplished and identify what will increase your likelihood of success in achieving your current goals.
- Reach out to family and friends for social support. The larger the network that rallies around you the greater the likelihood of success.
- Replace unhealthy behaviours with healthy ones. With the right environment and proper social support, you have the ability to make healthier choices.
- Reward yourself! When you reach a goal, no matter how small, celebrate your success!
- Do NOT berate yourself for setbacks. Remind yourself of what is working so you can rebuild your confidence and continue toward achieving your goals and vision.
As you manage your weight loss behavioural goals, be mindful of your habits. Practice positive self talk and recognize your good qualities and successes daily.
