FRIDAY, Mar 5th 2010 (fooducate.com) – We don’t like the word “diet.” Diets are about restriction, sacrifice, and typically they aren’t too much fun. Instead, we’re all about lifestyle change through behavior modification. Guess what? It works. We’ve researched this technique for the past 18 years under the leadership of Jean Harvey-Berino, R.D., Ph.D. at the University of Vermont. You can lose and manage weight by simply changing troublesome habits. We’ve seen person after person go through our program and lose 1-2 lbs per week by doing just that.

TUESDAY, Mar 9th 2009 (Canwest News Service) – Dr. Valerie Taylor doesn’t believe that most people with a weight problem would say, “This is not my fauly,” or “This is because of McDonald’s.”

“Absolutely, they take responsibility,” says Taylor, an assistant professor in psychiatry and behavioural neuroscience at McMaster University in Hamilton and director of the Canadian Obesity Network mental health program. Many people feel guilty about their weight, she says, “and they struggle to accept treatments like surgery because they really feel they should be able to control this problem themselves.

Earlier this week the popular press reported that the growing problem of diabetes is likened to a brewing economic tsunami. This week’s column deals with one aspect of that.

Those who eat a nutritious breakfast are much healthier than those who don’t according to a recent article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because, after a night’s rest we need to rev up our metabolism. What we eat determines whether we feel sluggish or energetic as the day goes on.

Incorporating Exercise Into A Busy Life

I have a job (two actually-lawyer and motivational speaker), a wife and child, a house with chores that need to be done, and a demanding training schedule. Oh, yeah, and I also have type 1 diabetes. I know how hard it is to balance life and exercise. Let’s see what we can do.
