DR. CHRISTOPHER S. COBOURN, MD, FRCS (C)

A fellowship-trained General Surgeon, Dr. Cobourn has received extensive training in the use and placement of the Lap-Band and the Gastric Balloon. In 1991, he introduced laparoscopic surgery to the Mississauga area, and since then has been focusing his time and practice on advanced laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Cobourn has expertise in advanced laparoscopic procedures that include gallbladder removal, hernia repair, advanced bowel surgery, spleen removal and Lap-Band surgery. In addition to his active practice in advanced laparoscopic surgery, he also specializes in Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery and has full hospital privileges at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga. Dr. Cobourn has been very active in learning and performing new surgical procedures throughout his career and attends many conferences and courses each year to maintain and enhance his surgical expertise.
Dr. Cobourn is a sought after speaker at local and international conferences and is serving on expert committees and panels to establish worldwide standards and practices for bariatric surgery.

DR. DAVID A. MUMFORD, MSc, MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Mumford is a fellowship-trained General Surgeon with a specialty in advanced laparoscopic surgery, which includes gallbladder removal, bowel surgery, hiatus hernia repair and Lap-Band surgery. He is also an experienced endoscopist and performs placement of the Gastric Balloon. Dr. Mumford has been an active staff member at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga since 1993, and he is currently the Chief of General Surgery at Trillium. In addition to his bariatric practice, he also maintains an active practice in Surgical Oncology. Dr. Mumford has received extensive training in the use and placement of the Lap-Band and the Gastric Balloon, and he regularly attends courses and conferences to update his knowledge and surgical skills.

DR. PHILIP C. MITCHELL, MD, FRCS(C), FACS

Born and raised in Calgary Dr. Mitchell completed his premedical and medical degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, followed by a rotating internship in Ottawa, and general surgical training at the University of Calgary. After obtaining his Fellowship in1991 he went to Adelaide, Australia to complete 2 years of advanced upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgical training with Professor Glyn Jamieson (a world expert in the field). Establishing his practice in Calgary he has continued to push the laparoscopic envelope, introducing many of the advanced laparoscopic procedures to the Calgary area including laparoscopic banding in 2005.
Dr. Mitchell is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Calgary and is helping to teach and train physicians and surgeons of the future. He is also on the faculty of CMAS (Center of Minimal Access Surgery) in Hamilton, Ontario training surgeons in advanced laparoscopic techniques.
Working with 2 other UGI surgeons Dr. Mitchell has developed an Upper Gastrointestinal Center of Excellence (UGICE) in Calgary that manages many of Western Canada’s complex gastric and esophageal cancers and benign conditions such as reflux disease and large hiatus hernias. Dr. Mitchell maintains privileges at all hospitals throughout the Calgary Health Region.
Dr. Mitchell began Laparoscopic Banding in Calgary in 2006 with 3 other like-minded and skilled UGI surgeons and partnered with the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in 2008.
Away from work Dr. Mitchell is kept busy cattle ranching, raising his 4 sons, playing hockey, volunteering as a Calgary Flames Ambassador and is the Director of Fundraising for The Highbanks Society (supporting parenting youth).

Dr. Woo is a fellowship-trained General Surgeon and performs advanced laparoscopic procedures. In 1997, he graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and completed his surgical residency at McMaster University in 2002 and was also a fellow in head & neck surgery until 2003. His practice include gastrointestinal cancers with a special interest in stomach cancer as well as thyroid cancer. Dr. Woo currently practices at Providence Healthcare in Vancouver and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UBC. In addition to training future surgeons, Dr. Woo is also one of the founding faculty members in the Biomedical Engineering Program at UBC and has assisted in developing basic courses to train future Biomedical Engineers.
When he is not working, Dr. Woo is busy helping his wife raise two young daughters. He is currently serving as a board member on the Canadian NGO that focuses on medical missions all over the world. Dr. Woo regularly volunteers on these missions and has worked in both South America and Asia.

DR. FRANK LISTA, MD, FRCS (C)

Dr. Lista is the medical director and founder of the Plastic Surgery Clinic and also the facility director of the Surgical Weight Loss Centre. Dr. Lista is a board-certified specialist in plastic surgery in Canada holding a specialty certificate from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and in the United States by The American Board of Medical Specialties in plastic surgery. He is one of only a few plastic surgeons to be certified in both countries.
Dr. Lista specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. He has a special interest in breast and body contouring surgery, especially for people who have experienced alterations in body appearance following significant weight loss or pregnancy. Areas of specialty include breast lift, tummy tuck, upper-arm lift, thigh lift and total body lift procedures. Dr. Lista also performs a large number of cosmetic facial surgeries including face lifts, eye lifts and nose reshaping surgery. Recognized as an authority in aesthetic and cosmetic plastic surgery, he has been invited to give numerous papers and presentations at national and international meetings all around the world Dr. Lista has published several articles in plastic surgery journals and written book chapters on topics of aesthetic surgery. He has been invited to be the Visiting Professor and present plastic surgery rounds at University of Toronto, McMaster University, McGill University and Yale University. As a developer of many new and unique surgical procedures, he frequently hosts visiting surgeons who come from around the world to observe him performing surgery at the Plastic Surgery Clinic.
