The Surgical Weight Loss Centre specializes in the medical treatment of obesity by offering both Gastric Banding and Gastric Balloon Programs. As the Canadian leader in weight loss procedures, we have a proven record of success with patients across the country, helping them achieve sustained weight loss that can improve their health, appearance and quality of life. The Surgical Weight Loss Centre has performed more than 2,000 weight loss procedures and treats hundreds of new patients each year.

Our programs

Our services go beyond Lap-Band surgery and Gastric Balloon procedures. At the Surgical Weight Loss Centre, we know the support of an experienced and dedicated team is essential to ensuring our patients achieve and sustain their weight loss goals. Our team is multidisciplinary, consisting of leading bariatric surgeons and anaesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, patient coordinators and psychological support. We also provide access to other medical specialists when needed. All team members play a part in supervising the Lap-Band and Gastric Balloon Programs – the most comprehensive bariatric (weight management) care in Canada.

Our facility

As the leading Canadian centre providing Lap-Band surgery and Gastric Balloon procedures, our credentials are second to none.

The Surgical Weight Loss Centre operates in association with and using the facilities of the Plastic Surgery Clinic, which was founded in 1987. The Plastic Surgery Clinic is a fully accredited Independent Health Facility licensed and inspected by the Ministry of Health of the Province of Ontario. We are also accredited by the Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (CAAASF). Both of these accreditations are achieved by regular inspection and review. This helps to ensure that you receive the highest and most modern level of care possible.

The Surgical Weight Loss Centre is a fully equipped surgical facility. We have the most advanced medical equipment available, including specially designed bariatric surgical equipment and highly sophisticated patient monitoring systems. Our 10,000 square-foot surgical facility meets or exceeds Ontario Building requirements for hospitals.

The majority of procedures are performed at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre. We are located around the corner from the Trillium Health Centre, a large local hospital. Procedures are performed at the Trillium Health Centre only if it is felt necessary for medical reasons. If so, this option will be discussed during the consultation with your surgeon. Our surgeons, whether they are at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre or at the Trillium Health Centre, perform all the procedures.

We are dedicated to treating you with a professional and caring attitude. We know that you trust us with your safety and your health. For this reason, our staff has been carefully selected to meet your needs. Our dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialists are experienced in weight loss surgery and are specially trained in post-operative care.

Lap-Band surgery requires a general anaesthetic. Certified and experienced anaesthesia specialists will administer the anaesthetic, stay with you during the entire procedure, and will continue to supervise your care after you wake up. The anesthesiologists, nurses and other clinical staff are specifically chosen for their interest and expertise in dealing with overweight and obese patients.
